Yes, please! Your passport will be required by the Board of Management of Halong Bay like when you check in a hotel. Besides, we strongly recommend you to bring your passport with you all the time.

In order to make legal entry procedures, you are requested to submit all the copies of their passports, check-in date, Vietnam via expiry date and special requests (g. vegetarian meal, honeymooners, allergies, etc.) to contact@graylinehalong.com before check-in at least 01 (day).

In wintertime, from November to February, warm clothes like pullovers, coats are needed. You can bring sandals or shoes, but if you plan to challenge yourselves by climbing up the Titov Peak, shoes will be better.

According to the management board of Halong, it is banned to use single use plastic products with all of visitors, crews and officials on the Bay, effective from 1 Sep 2019. Read those regulations, penalties and punishments carefully.

Personal food and beverage are allowed to bring onboard with surcharges and corkage fees ranging between $10-50 per bottle/item. In particular, onboard insurance will be no longer effective when happening food poisoning and similar problems.

There is insurance in your tickets, but we encourage you to buy luggage insurance before any trip away from home, not only for Halong.

Only if you have camera or high valued stuff.

No, it is not compulsory at this time.

Yes you can, as early as possible as we have a limited store for. We cannot prepare too much before departing, and we don’t keep them frozen more than one day. FOODS

Yes and no, we can prepare a lot of foods, but as we will relax in sea fresh atmosphere, we strongly recommend seafood. Other choices are inclusive of chicken, fish, various vegetables, bread and rice and accompanied foodstuff.

Yes you can, as early as possible as we have a limited store for. We cannot prepare too much before departing, and we don’t keep them frozen more than one day. Yes you can, but the vegan food vary in each country, and so as in Vietnam. If you want to either avoid any ingredients or choose a specific menu, you can bring with you to give us a list about 73 hrs in advance. An amount of surcharge will be applied for complicated cooking methods.

First and foremost, we strongly recommend you either Vietnamese food or local vegan food, as we think that local food can be one of the best experience when we travel far away home. In case you prefer your familiar menus to local dishes, we can prepare vegetarian food, spicy food, food with no beef or no pork; we are not skillful in preparing other diets, though. Since 2013, 95% of our clients who had special food orders have been extremely happy with our chef. Enjoy your visit in Halong Bay.

We can serve you with excellent Vietnamese food with chicken, vegetables, eggs, fishes.

Dinner is often a great collection of seafood so you will have many choices. You can choose non-seafood menu, too, and let our tour guide know half day before arriving at the cruise.

We are sorry that we would love to do that, but currently not. However, we guarantee that we have the best chefs in the Bay and local Vietnamese food itself is excellent, tasty and harmonious. If you look at the form of the Vietnamese, especially the young generation (20-30y/o), you may agree with us!

LIFE ON BOARD

As the Gray Lines are designed and operated as boutique deluxe boats, at night we recommend and prepare instruments for relaxing activities, like film watching, fishing, playing guitars or just enjoy drinks. The ambiance in the Bay is more suitable to relaxing and leisure time than exciting games, though.

Yes, you can request a special program in the small deluxe boat of three cabins, or whenever you charter the whole bigger boats.

Yes, we have, in accordance with the current laws and regulations on a sea area. They are all visible near the reception deck.

Yes. But on the sea, sometimes the signal is not good.

We will need to find the reason immediately and let you know if we will be in charge or the insurance can cover those incidents. We can also guarantee that it happened, but very rarely onboard of our cruises. CCTV system arr all around the clock.

We are sorry that you should not as the corkage charge for bringing drinks onboard is high. Personal food are also allowed to bring onboard with surcharges ranging between $10-50 per item. Each cabin (aka guestroom) has alarm system and louder-speaker system, just in case, in emergency. We do have a lot of lifebuoys and speedboats which travel along with the main cruises. Above all, we monthly train our crew well for handling emergencies and safe operation. Importantly, the crew are qualified and certified by the responsible local authorities, for example the Management Board of Halong.

The place we will be cruising is nearby the mainland and belong to the Tonkin Gulf, which is a part of the Pacific Ocean, but only 15km as the crow flies directly to the city of Halong.

Sorry, we have currently no idea and technology to support in these cases.

TRANSFER

There are several roads between Hanoi (aka Noi Bai) airport) to Halong Bay. Between Noi Bai airport and the place where the Gray Line Cruise anchors is from 165 to 180km, taking about 3h30 with the Vietnam traffic. There is another airport nearby in Hai Phong seaport, but not with daily flight.

From Halong Bay to Hanoi, the main tourist hub in Northern Vietnam, is also 165 to 180km depending on the road you chose.

You can fly from Saigon (SGN) to Hanoi (HAN) or Haiphong (HPH), Van Don (VDIA) then go by car to Halong. Hanoi is a much better choice. More airports are on progress near the Bay to complete in about 2020.

It will take you 2h30 via Haiphong highway, or 3h30 by other ways. The longer ways are more preferable as you can see more countryside and landscape.

The Gray Line shuttle buses have 2 types, 16-seat van and 29-seat bus. Both are spacious with very good air-con and run daily. The drivers don’t speak English but there are escorting tour guides who speak English accompanying you. Some tour guides speak either English or another language like Russian, Chinese, French, or Portuguese.

You just need to mention with your agents for the best arrangement. If you book directly, add shuttle service to your booking and confirm the extra payment for transfer.

The Old Quarter of Hanoi is limited by the dike of the Red River, Trang Tien and Trang Thi street, Phung Hung street with the railway, and Phan Dinh Phung street. Many hotels are located in that area so the pickup services are often based there. We also pick up you at the near streets, for e.g. the Hilton. You can also wait for us at the Opera House – the last pick-up point.

The Gray Line shuttle bus will pick up you from your hotels if they are located inside the Old quarter, and in a street where we can stop the vehicle. Some streets here are prohibited for vehicles neither for stopping nor parking.

Yes, you can order transfer directly from the pier of Gray Line cruise at Halong Bay to Hanoi airport, or you can set a meeting point with your private car at the cross in Hai Duong, using the shuttle bus of Gray line until you reach that Point, then change the vehicle. The tour guides of Gray Line will ensure finding your vehicle at the meeting point for you. It is just a saving-cost solution.

Except to promotions, the transfer is not inclusive in the 2-day or 3-day packages, you just need to order it and pay a very little extra amount.

The Gray Line shuttle bus are blue or has blue logo of Gray Line. Receptionists at your hotel will also help you. If you do not stay in any hotels in the Old Quarter, either you can ask for your agent’s help or you can contact us to set a convenient meeting point.

The sea packages are not inclusive of any vehicles to Halong Bay, so in case you book private vehicles to go to and from Halong Bay to Hanoi by yourselves, the packages will remain the same.

The cruises depart every day at 12.30pm from the pier of Halong International Cruise Port.

No, there any weight restriction for your luggage but if you will continue the tour in Hanoi after the boat trip, you should leave big suitcases at your hotel stores in Hanoi. Travel light.

Yes, we can help your mum get on the bus and carry the wheelchair onboard. However, most of sea activities may be skipped and stay on boat for your own relaxation.

WEATHER

Any month will be good if the Weather forecast bureau doesn’t say anything of “upcoming typhoon”. The best months are March, August, October and November. The typhoons or rains often come in late Summer (July and September) with no fixed rules. Weekdays from  Monday to Friday will be less crowded than Saturday and Sunday. Besides, if the weather is not good for long voyages, the Board of Management of Halong Bay will cease all cruises from departing. January sometimes features by mist, and in summer from May to August the humidity is higher than usual. Besides, the Bay is great in all time and attracts every traveler, even the repeated guests.

Please visit our solutions when weather gets bad. Luckily, the geographical surrounding of Hanoi is similar to that of Halong Bay. To speak precisely, they are on a same mountain range! In case a sea boat trip is canceled, you can have replacement by visiting in Hanoi, in Ninh Binh province with boat trips in those areas where limestone mountains and rivers offer mostly the same landscape you may see in the Bay, but this time you can see them close-by, within a touching distance from your small boats rowed by the local. Our sales team will provide you more details upon request.

Yes, but it will be breezy as we will hang around on the sea. Upon the same temperature and humidity, the weather at Halong bay feels much better than in the cities. June is usually the hottest month, though, yet we do provide 3-day program with one day in the middle for swimming and relax.

We don’t have very cold days, the lowest recorded temperature on the Bay is 4 to 9 Celsius degrees (39 to 48 Fahrenheit), but the water temperature is always lower than air temperature. We have the mistiest days in January which is the middle of winter in Northern Vietnam. The winter at Halong bay is very mild, in comparison with the winter in Hanoi or other cities, though. In misty days or cold water days, we can climb an island’s peak, have relax time on the sundeck (yeah sometimes it’s cold but we still have the sun), take part in our activities including caving, climbing, walking, fishing, and sightseeing. We also have guitars and movies on-board.

Yes you can, but it also depends on your group, our sales team can provide you options to do when the weather is really bad. You can refer our solutions when weather gets bad.
