Surprise Cave - Gray Line Halong Cruise

Surprise Cave

Situated in the center of the World Heritage area, “Sung Sot” cave has been found in Bo Hon Island and entered the three glorious and widest caves of Ha Long Bay. The path to Sung Sot is paved securely and lined with shady trees, leading us into extended chambers that one hardly imagine it can possibly exist in a bay.

Found in 1901 (officially) by the French, Sung Sot got its name – Grotte des surprises (Cave of the surprises) or “Hang Sung Sot” in pure Vietnamese for its amazing beauty and scale. This is a large cave with the size of 12,200 sq. meters, with three compartments and high ceiling with numerous of stalactites and stalagmites in odd shapes. The ceiling’s height is about 30 meters, and the gate to the cave is about 25 meters above the sea level. There are many huge grottoes in the Bay, but Sung Sot is surprisingly located in the middle of the most convenient routes. From the cave, you can easily approach the most famous caves or routes in the Bay, passing Virgin island, Turtle rock, Butterfly rock, Drum Cave or ‘’too famous’’ Titov beach and Titov Peak. Thus beside the value of a karst formation with hundreds of millions of years since the rock formation in Halong Bay, the cave is also a popular rendezvous of all kinds of boats and tours, a must-to-see for every passenger that want to reach and discover the geological secrets of nature.
