Luon Cave

Known for steep, rocky cliffs and smooth water flows below, Luon Cave displays wonderful natural assets that Halong Bay’s ecosystem known for. The cave is located in the northeast of Bo Hon Island, about 14km south of Bai Chay Beach. Near the cave are Hon Rua (Turtle Islet) and Hang Sung Sot (Surprising Cave).

Every cave in Halong Bays is named after their typical shape as well as the story attached. With the name of “Luon”, i.e. going thru something from underneath, this is a circular mountainous arc with a blue lake inside, with a flow into the sea via a tunnel. One of the special spots is the water streaming down from ravines so that the water from the cave is emerald and as transparent as crystal.

Luon Cave is about 60m long and 4m wide. The ceiling ranges from 2.5m to 4m high from the water surface, depending on the tidal level. Luon Cave is only accessible by kayaks or  small bamboo boats, since the entrance is too low for big ships or cruises to enter, which makes it a great choice for those who looking for more adventure and the chance to explore at their own pace.

Exploring Luon Cave is an amazing trip, where you can row your boat thru bow-shaped gate inside and suddenly amazed by clusters of stalactites dangled from the roof of the grotto. When entering the cave, one can be astonished by the beauty of a glittering crystal lake that appear suddenly, along with twittering songs of wild birds. On the big rugged rocks, life’s   flourishing with blooming trees, green ferns and wild orchids in the most natural ways that offer freshness to the whole area. There are also numerous fossilized freshwater shells, proving that place used to be a deep valley.  If you are lucky, you will get some shots of golden cheeky monkeys jumping over cliffs to search for fruit, or many songbirds making nests on the trees. Many travelers choose to kayak by themselves to explore the area utmost, but if you love tranquility and leisure, enjoy yourselves on a bamboo boats that can carry a dozen of people, and just relax thoroughly with nature.
